The Shreveport woman accused of throwing her children off the Cross Lake Bridge in Shreveport Friday is back in the state after being arrested in Texas. Corporal Chris Bordelon with the Shreveport Police Department said they aren’t releasing a motive of why 32-year-old Ureka Black allegedly threw her infant son and five-year-old son into the water, which killed the infant.
“So, we’re going to be very careful relaying any information we release just to protect the integrity of the courts,” said Bordelon.
According to a press release from the Shreveport Police Department, detectives gathered video evidence at the scene while interviewing potential witnesses that proved crucial in identifying the suspect. Bordelon said they aren’t releasing details of what witnesses told authorities.
“Initially our officers just responded to a call of an infant in the water, to my understanding. As to the particulars of the witness information, we’re not going to release anything on that because the investigation is still ongoing,” said Bordelon.
The five-year-old child was taken to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries that have now been downgraded. The infant was pronounced dead on the scene.
Black faces second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder charges and bond has been set. Bordelon said now that the suspect at the Shreveport Jail…
“Since she’s been extradited back here to Shreveport she will have a court appearance within 72-hours, it will probably be at Caddo district Court and it will usually be a video arraignment,” said Bordelon.
The suspect was arrested without incident in Waskom, Texas Friday evening.
