Louisiana-founded Waitr announced Tuesday that LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley will promote the food delivery app on his Instagram account. Waitr spokesperson Dean Turcol says the NCAA’s recent ruling that allows college athletes to profit off of their name, image and likeness paved the way for this deal.
“Under these new rules by the NCAA that we can partner with such elite players who represent the state so well and with Derek representing LSU and the state of Louisiana it was just a natural fit,” said Turcol.
Turcol says Stingley has his own delivery code that customers can use to get free delivery on their next order. He says Stingley will give out that delivery code on his Instagram account this week. You can follow Stingley on Instagram @derek_stingley.
“So he can actually give out his code to all of his friends and all of his followers and at the same time we work with him on promotional activities,” said Turcol.
Turcol says they also have similar deals with LSU first baseman Tre Morgan and Alabama linebacker Christian Harris, who is from Baton Rouge. He says Waitr is proud of Louisiana athletes who are starring on the college level and they are thrilled they can now partner with them.
“These are helping the college athletes who represent the state so well and we wanted to give back to them and to their friends and followers,” said Turcol.
Wait’s corporate headquarters are in Lafayette and they operate in over a dozen states and 900 cities. Stingley is currently not playing because of a foot injury.
