Our Lady Of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge announces plans to build a $100-million cancer center in the Capital City. OLOL President Scott Wester says they expect to break ground early next year.
“And the new facility is expected to include more than 80,000 square feet of clinical and support space that will be directly connected to the regional medical center to provide ease of access to a full suite of services for all cancer patients,” said Wester.
Our Lady of the Lake is finalizing its selection of a nationally recognized architecture firm experienced in building state-of-the-art cancer centers.
“Included in the new facility, will be medical and surgical oncology physician practices, a chemotherapy/infusion centers, advanced imaging and diagnostic for treatment, an onsite outpatient pharmacy,” said Wester.
The facility will include literally every aspect of cancer research, treatment, and care.
When finished it will employ 600 physicians.
Governor John Bel Edwards was present for the announcement on Monday. He says this will eliminate the need for cancer patients to seek treatment out of state.
“Having world-class care right here in Baton Rouge at this new facility is going to be a tremendous asset not just for Baton Rouge, but for our entire state,” said Edwards.
