Now that the coaching future of Ed Orgeron has been decided, LSU begins the search for a new football coach. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says Atheltic Director Scott Woodward will have a lot of candidates to consider.
“Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss, Joe Brady, the boy wonder at the Carolina Panthers, who was at LSU during the national championship season,” said Higgins. “There are African-American candidates as well, James Franklin of Penn State, Mel Tucker of Michigan State.”
Higgins says LSU is looking for a coach that wins and has no off-field baggage.
“Because of the LSU Title IX problems they’ve had, the NCAA problems they’ve had, look it’s almost impossible to find someone that squeaky clean that good, but he’s got to find somebody, ” said Higgins.
USC is the other big-name school that has a vacancy. Higgins says announcing Orgeron’s fate in October should help in the search for his replacement.
“It helps to do this early, because it’s out there, and you can vet people properly and see who you got,” said Higgins.
