Instances of COVID-19 are easing in Louisiana, that according to Governor John Bel Edwards who was asked about the situation during Wednesday’s “Ask the Governor” show. He noted that hospitalizations had climbed to the three-thousand mark back in August during the 4th surge of the virus. “That number is down to 380, so we are down very close to the baseline of COVID numbers in terms of cases and positivity hospitalizations where we were before the fourth surge,” said Edwards.
It’s noteworthy that 83 percent of those currently hospitalized with COVID have not been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Edwards says figures show that the coronavirus is easing its grip on Louisiana. “Our positivity rates for tests currently in Louisiana is a little less than three percent, it had gotten over 16 percent at the peak. We had over 3,000 people in the hospital at one time,” said the governor
As he said on “Ask the Governor” Wednesday, no decision had been made yet on whether the mask mandate or other mitigation efforts to further curb the spread of the virus in the Bayou State. “I received my first briefing today about what the current situation is relative to the decision next week on what we keep in place and what we lift,” said Edwards.
He says that decision should come around Tuesday or Wednesday.
