Suspect 23-year old Ramsey Akes
A possible road rage incident led to the death of a 65-year-old Cynthia Walker who was shot in the parking lot of Willis-Knighton hospital Wednesday. The suspect is a 23-year old man and Bossier City Police Lt. Bart Cavanagh said it happened shortly after seven last night and two off-duty officers were in the parking lot.
“The officers immediately started doing life-saving techniques and started CPR until the fire department transported her. She was transported to Ochsner, which is a level-one trauma center, but unfortunately, she passed away,” said Cavanaugh.
The suspect Ramsey Akes is charged with first-degree murder.
Cavanaugh said they are still investigating what motivated the shooting, but it appears road rage may have been a factor.
“It looks like it most likely started outside of the parking on the roadway and then proceeded into the parking lot where the two individuals exited their cars and that’s when the shooting happened,” said Cavanagh.
Walker was shot several times and Cavanaugh said neither the victim nor the suspect had any ties to the hospital, and it appears that the altercation between the two began elsewhere and ended in the parking lot Willis-Knighton.
“Emotions sometimes run high, and if you’re not careful you let your emotions drive instead of being a passenger, and ultimately it didn’t end up well in this case,” said Cavanaugh.
Akes is being held on a $275,000 bond.
