Venture Global announces they are investing more than $10 billion in a new liquefied natural gas facility in Cameron Parish. Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson said the company already has a $7-billion facility in Calcasieu Parish and the new plant has an added feature.
“Moving Louisiana’s Haynesville Shale gas and other gas produced in the US through our great pipeline network and being exported after being liquefied globally to power the world,” said Pierson.
The new facility will be known as CP2, Calcasieu Pass Two. Pierson said there will be approximately 200 direct high paying jobs at the new facility, plus more than 800 indirect jobs at the plant.
“Brings the total to over a thousand jobs in the southwest Louisiana area of our state, we know they need these important jobs there. And during construction there’ll be more than 2,300 jobs,” said Pierson.
Pierson said they are pleased to see Venture Global make yet another investment in Louisiana, in addition to their existing facilities in Calcasieu and Plaquemines Parishes.
“We’re seeing a great corporate partner here, and one that’s now incorporated a great environmental feature in carbon capture and sequestration into this facility,” said Pierson.
The complex will be located on 650 acres in Cameron, including 170 acres on Monkey Island, providing CP2 with direct access to the deep-water Calcasieu Ship Channel.
The facility is part of Governor John Bel Edwards’ initiative of net-zero emissions by 2050.
