Louisiana Public Broadcasting is on a mission to “Save Mardi Gras 2022.” The launch of LPB’s social media campaign is encouraging folks to get vaccinated in an effort to save carnival season. LPB Executive Producer Linda Midgett said all you have to do is watch their video, record yourself dancing and upload it to social media.
“We have an original song called ‘Save Mardi Gras’ and Leonard Augustus did a really fun dance. The dance is available on Tik Tok, and we are hoping that people will just do the dance,” said Midgett.
In addition to learning a fun dance, Midgett said LPB will most likely choose some of the best submissions, make a complication and air them. They’ll also be featured on their social media pages.
“And we would really like an age variety and as much diversity as possible from people. We’ve talked about taking those and turning those into a fun video,” said Midgett.
And it’s not just Mardi Gras LPB is trying to save by increasing vaccination rates. After the pandemic forced a majority of events and festivals to be canceled, Midgett said Louisianans are eager to celebrate together again.
“I think we’re all tired of being alone in our homes and we’re tired of being on Zoom calls and we just want to be able to get together with people and to do it without worrying about endangering the people around us,” said Midgett.
