With voters in St. Tammany Parish rejecting a proposal to move a Bossier City casino license to Slidell last month, what becomes of that casino? State Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns says state law dictates that Diamond Jack’s casino must re-open within 60 days of the failed referendum. “That date will be February the 9th. Diamond Jacks has petitioned the state for a very short extension,” says Johns.
He says the Gaming Control Board has granted the extra days, and will hear the casino’s re-opening plan on February 17th. Johns says the casino has been allowed to get a bit run down and will need some TLC in order to compete; something to Board must heavily weigh. He says Diamond Jack’s also faces a staff and equipement shortage. If they cannot present an acceptable plan to re-open, they can either surrender their casino license or find a buyer for the entire facility.
