A website aimed at increasing dual enrollment for high school students in Louisiana seeks to inform parents and students of the benefits for all students, even those seeking a technical degree. Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed said ladualenrollment.com officially launches Tuesday.
“It is a one-stop where parents, students, and high school counselors can get more information about dual enrollment offerings, what it is, how it works, and what’s available near them,” said Reed.
Dual enrollment allows high school students to take one course and receive credit hours for both high school and college at the same time.
Reed said their last annual report indicated approximately 20,000 students were participating in dual enrollment and about 64% of students graduate with at least one dual enrollment course. She said they want to build on that momentum.
“Our goal with the board of elementary and secondary education is that by the class of 2029 every high school senior will graduate with a college credit or credential or both,” said Reed.
Reed said dual enrollment is both affordable and accessible and can also reduce one’s time spent in college because they’ve already completed courses in high school.
“And whether you’re interested in a technical credential or an academic one we need you to get started in high school,” said Reed.
