When Joe Burrow received his Heisman trophy, he talked about poverty where he grew up in Ohio. Since then, the Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund has been able to help those in need. Cara Brook President of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio said it’s making a huge difference.
“For him to remember children in need and to say you can be here too, hard to even express how much pride he felt and how much hope that gave. But then to see people start to give what they could,” said Brook.
Brook said and now Bengals fans are paying tribute to Burrow thanking him for ending the 31-year curse and getting them to a playoff game.
“We’ve had more than 2,000 gifts of $9, and you know whose jersey that’s in honor of, and recently we’ve had a lot of gifts of $31,” said Brook.
And here’s a challenge for Purple and Gold fans, donate the score of your favorite 2019 game or even $84 for being the 84th winner of the Heisman. Brook said every donation adds up and they’ve been able to unite forces with organizations that get to the root challenges of food insecurity.
“It’s really because of this recent run-up and these gifts that we’re at this point today to be able to make more of those investments,” said Brook.
