Saints running back Alvin Kamara is facing a battery charge after he allegedly injured someone at a Las Vegas nightclub. Las Vegas Metropolitan police say the incident happened Saturday morning, but Kamara still played in yesterday’s Pro Bowl Game in Las Vegas. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says Kamara was not charged until after the game.
“That’s perplexing a little bit,” said Detillier, who was a guest with Tommy Tucker on WWL Radio in New Orleans.
Kamara was released on a five-thousand dollar bail and his first court appearance is Monday afternoon in Las Vegas.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at the Drai’s After Dark nightclub in the Cromwell Casino by the elevators. Police allege Kamara and three of his friends got into a fight with a man, identified as Darnell Greene, who was coming off an elevator. Las Vegas PD say Kamara put his hand on Green and Green pushed it pushed it off, which started a fight. Kamara allegedly punched him several times and when Greene was on the ground, Kamara and his friends allegedly kicked him while he was down.
Kamara told police he thought the man was running away after doing something to his group.
The victim suffered an orbital fracture to his right eye and other injuries described as minor. Authorities say surveillance video matches the victim’s story.
Detillier says if Kamara is found guilty of this felony charge he’ll face discipline from the NFL.
“The NFL has taken action on players that in essence that they feel as though may have damaged the NFL shield,” said Detillier.
The 26-year-old Kamara had 1,337 yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns and was selected to the Pro Bowl for a fifth time in five seasons.
A court date has been set for March 8th.
