It will be lights, camera, hunt next week in Baton Rouge as Disney+ begins filming the TV series, National Treasure. Executive director of The Baton Rouge Film Commission Katie Pryor said the series will be in the same spirit of the movie franchise but set in the capital city.
“So, it’s the same vein, the same energy, the same kind of storytelling, but it’s a younger group of main characters going through Baton Rouge, and set as Baton Rouge and representing Baton Rouge on the screen which is absolutely incredible,” said Pryor.
Lisette Alexis will play the lead character who’s got a knack for solving puzzles and is on an adventure to save a lost Pan-American treasure in Baton Rouge. Pryor said you’ll see plenty of the Red Stick on the screen.
“I can’t tell you exactly where they’re going to be, I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I feel like it’s very easy to deduce where a historical treasure hunter would go in the city,” said Pryor.
Also attached is Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will portray the villain, a shrewd antique dealer, and fellow treasure hunter. Pryor said the Disney feature film Crater was also shot in Baton Rouge and they are extremely pleased they’ve chosen to return for a series.
Pryor said the National Treasure series will have an immediate impact on the city’s economy and is spending $17 million on Louisiana payroll alone.
“Because they come in and as opposed to other industries, they don’t really have a lot of lead time, you’re spending millions of dollars relatively quickly, you’re hiring a lot of people, pretty fast. So the economic impact is there and it’s fast,” said Pryor.
Filming for season one is expected to wrap up in July.
