The Krewe of Janus rolls Saturday night in Monroe and there’s plenty of excitement for the return of the parade that’s been a staple of the Twin Cities, Monroe, and West Monroe, since 1984. Throws Lieutenant Hailey Kenly said they are prepared with 3.5 million throws for attendees, especially youngsters.
“It’s a great family-friendly event that we look for kids in the crowd, we really do. We search out children to throw them something super fun,” said Kenly.
The theme of this year’s parade is Janus Goes to Hollywood. Kenly said the King and Queen’s floats showcase the royals and have specialty throws that are quite collectible.
“They only throw pearls, gold, and silver. If you get something very specific from those floats, that’s a special item to have,” said Kenly.
Kenly said it was extremely emotional having to cancel last year’s parade and so that makes this year’s event even more special. As Throws Lieutenant for the Krewe of Janus, Kenly is in charge of ordering and distributing throws and knows firsthand there’s more than three million to catch from 28 floats, so be well prepared to carry your loot home.
“We’ve got hula hoops that light up, we’ve got bracelets that light up, we’ve got frisbees, we’ve got all kinds of great things,” said Kenly.
The Krewe of Janice will roll Saturday at 6 PM.
