As COVID cases remain in a lull, Louisiana State Prisons are bringing back contact visitation and they are also set to bring back the Angola Prison Rodeo next month. Department of Corrections Spokesperson Ken Pastorick said they are also taking precautions.
“We are recommending masks for people during the contact visitation. They are recommended but not required. The requirement you do have with a contact visitation is that both parties, the inmate and the loved ones do have to be fully vaccinated,” said Pastorick.
You can find out more information about reservations, hours, and requirements for contact visitation at doc.la.gov.
Pastorick said it’s been a long two years of non-contact visitation and they are hopeful COVID cases will continue to decline so family and friends can visit once again in person…
“Face-to-face, and give them a hug if you like, which is a long time coming. It’s great that we’re able to reopen this because it means a lot to these individuals who are incarcerated,” said Pastorick.
And DOC is also excited to announce the return of the Angola Prison Rodeo, on April 23 and 24th. Tickets for the event usually sell out and after a two-year hiatus, Pastorick said he wouldn’t put off buying your ticket this year.
“Come out and enjoy the rodeo, enjoy the food, the festivities, the hobby crafts that will be sold by the inmates. I promise you if you come out though, you will definitely enjoy it, it’s a different atmosphere, a different event, something like you’ve never experienced before,” said Pastorick.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at AngolaRodeo.com.
