A statewide poll of 600 likely voters finds that 48% of respondents believe Governor John Bel Edwards did a good job of handling the pandemic and that same poll by JMC Analytics gives the governor a 49% approval rating.
Senator Bill Cassidy’s approval rating has dropped to 38% and the Republican’s disapproval rating is at 49%. JMC Analytics pollster John Couvillon says Cassidy’s popularity took a hit last year when he voted to impeach former President Donald Trump.
“I think there is some residual fallout from his vote regarding impeachment, all though the good news for him, since he doesn’t come up for re-election until 2026, he still time to make those necessary changes,” said Couvillon.
Meanwhile, Senator John Kennedy’s voter approval rating is 53-percent and he’s up for re-election this year. Couvillon says Kennedy’s base is pretty reflective of the state’s voting habits, and that bodes well for him.
“Senator Kennedy basically has the support he needs from Republican and Republican-leaning voters,” said Couvillon.
Couvillon asked respondents last week if the election for U.S. Senate was held today, which candidate would they support.
John Kennedy (R) 53%
Gary Chambers (D) 14%
Luke Mixon (D) 7%
Syrita Steib (D) 3%
Undecided 23%
