Baton Rouge Police have arrested 35-year-old Earl Lee Johnson, Jr. for the murder of a woman that was broadcast on Facebook Live Monday. Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said Johnson was already in custody after a chase involving a stolen vehicle when they learned he was a suspect in the brutal stabbing of 34-year-old Janice David.
“We do believe they had been at least on a three-to-four-day drug-binge together From there during the course of those events at the end of it he choked her, he beat her, and he stabbed her,” said McKneely.
McKneely said someone who saw the video notified Facebook and they contacted authorities in Louisiana.
McKneely said East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle with the victim’s body inside and then Baton Rouge Police was informed about the murder in the Sherwood Forest area.
“We launched our investigation had a recording of the video, already had him in custody, we interviewed him, he admitted to committing the killing,” said McKneely.
McKneely said they received a call Monday at 5 PM about a stolen vehicle before they were notified about the gruesome murder broadcast on Facebook.
“We made contact with that vehicle, it was a short pursuit, after that we were able to apprehend him. So, we had him in custody prior to learning of his actions involved with the Facebook Live video,” said McKneely.
Johnson faces First Degree Murder, Theft of a Vehicle, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer charges. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
