The man and woman who allegedly burglarized and set fire to Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser’s home have been arrested. Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Shawn Domingue said that Robert Kelly and Angela Goodfellow, both of Slidell, were apprehended in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Wednesday.
“We were able to use license plate recognition cameras and we were able to pinpoint cell phones, and we were also able to collect DNA evidence from the scene that linked these two to the crime,” said Domingue.
Last Thursday, Kelly and Goodfellow allegedly kicked in the back door to the home, stole what they could, and started a fire in the kitchen. Domingue says at this time authorities don’t believe that Nungesser was specifically targeted.
“We don’t know at this time if they knew it was the Lt. Governor’s residence or not,” Domingue said. “That’s something we’re gonna do after we interrogate them after we extradite them back from Plaquemine’s Parish.”
Most of the items taken from Nungesser’s home have been recovered, though for the lieutenant governor, having that duo off the street and behind bars is a greater relief than getting back some memorabilia.
“I’m just glad they’re caught and won’t be able to do this to other people because you feel so violated,” said Nungesser. “And God forbid if there was a home they broke into with children or something like that. So, we’re just glad that they’ll be off the streets.”
Domingue said the extradition should take no more than a day or two.
