Today marks the one-year anniversary of the death of former four-term governor Edwin Edwards. The silver fox passed away at the age of 94 from respiratory complications. Trina Edwards was Edwards’ third wife and married to him at the time of his death. She explained to Jim Engster on Talk Louisiana what attracted her to one of the state’s most colorful politicians.
“His personality for one thing is amazing, it’s hard to be around him and not love him, he was so compassionate and kind all the time,” said Trina Edwards.
Trina Edwards and Edwin Edwards had a child together as Eli is set to turn nine-years-old on August 1st. Trina says Edwin’s last spoken words were to him.
“He stopped talking a day before that, but the last thing he said was I love you to Eli and I was lucky enough to be actually recording it,” said Trina Edwards.
The 43-year-old Trina Edwards has a new love of her life as she’s been dating former Louisiana House Speaker and Senate President John Alario and said on Talk Louisiana she would marry him if the 78-year-old asked her.
Trina Edwards says Alario, who is a widower himself, treats Eli well and they’ve been dating for six months. She admitted to Engster that she has a type.
