State Representative Larry Selders of Baton Rouge is charged with DWI, reckless operation, and driving under a suspended license. State Police spokesperson Christian Reed says troopers saw him traveling at a high rate of speed near the LSU campus early on the morning of August 21st.
“Shortly after 2 am troopers were in the area of East Boyd Drive and Burbank when they observed a vehicle that was doing a burnout,” Reed says.
Reed says the 40-year-old Selders took a breath test, was arrested, and released on a summons.
“While speaking with Mr. Selders troopers suspected impairment and conducted standardized field sobriety tests. State Representative Selders was arrested,” Reid says.
State Police declined to say why Selders had a suspended license. In a statement, Selders said he understands the importance of safe driving and is committed to making better decisions.
Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields is a longtime friend and was asked about Selders’ arrest during an appearance on Talk Louisiana.
“I think there’s a lot more good that we’re going to see out of Representative Selders in the years to come,” Senator Fields says.
