The second round of funding from the Louisiana Loggers Relief Program will be open for applications today. Treasurer John Schroder, who’s overseeing the implementation of $5 million, said it’s intended to alleviate the economic strain for loggers caused by the pandemic.
“This is designed to help them, it’s not going to fix anything particularly other than just give them some financial relief,” said Schroder.
He said it’s funded by the federal infrastructure act. Logging companies that previously received the maximum $25,000 amount from the original Loggers Relief program are not eligible. Schroder said those who were previously denied may be eligible for this round of funding.
“We had a few issues with the law that the legislature went in and sort of cleaned up, so there’s about $5-million that we’re going to be able to allocate to loggers across the state,” said Schroder.
The online application process opens at 10 a.m. and you can also find eligibility requirements at LAtreasury.com. Schroder said the deadline to apply is October 31st or until funds run out.
“We’re just encouraging those who are eligible to apply, they can either call my office or go to LAtreasury.com, for all the information. We’re happy to assist them,” said Schroder.
Schroder said the Loggers Relief Program is an extension of the Main Street Recovery Grant Program which distributed close to $275 million to Louisiana small businesses last year.
