Baton Rouge Police addressed questions from the media concerning the status of the Allie Rice case, the 21-year-old LSU student who was gunned down last Friday. Lt. Kevin Heinz was asked about reports of an eyewitness who call BRPD about the shooting and that police failed to call him back in a timely manner.
“That is absolutely incorrect, and I’ll say this about it, if there’s somebody out there that has information, please call us, please call us. We have talked to everybody that we know of,” said Heinz.
The Shed restaurant, where Rice worked, kickstarted a reward for anyone who had information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her death. Baton Rouge Crimestoppers Executive Director Johnny Dunnam said the reward has reached $37,500.
“Anybody that wants to claim that reward we ask that they contact Crimestoppers so that we can vet the information to make sure the person does remain anonymous. But that is a separate independent reward that is being offered by that group of concerned businesses and citizens,” said Dunnam.
Audio PlayerPolice Chief Murphy Paul asked the community to lift the Rice family in prayer and to stop spreading misinformation about the case. Paul was also questioned about an eyewitness who claims no one would not take his report. Lt. Heinz responded to the question when asked if BRPD is taking the case seriously.
“I’ll absolutely respond to that. If anybody thinks that we’re not taking any of these cases seriously, they are greatly mistaken. If there’s a witness out there that feels as though we haven’t taken his report, that we haven’t taken his side of the story, he needs to get in touch with us,” said Heinz.
