There is now a blood test that can detect cancer without symptoms. The blood test became available in the U.S a year ago.
Internal medical physician Dr. David Meyers in Metairie says the test is unable to identify brain or skin cancer, but can easily pick up on aggressive forms of cancer.
“If a cancer grows rapidly then theirs much more turn over of cells and much more dead cells to identify. The test tends to see that more quickly however its not good with identifying more slow growing cancer,” said Meyers.
The test costs $950. Health care providers must order it and its currently not covered by medical insurance, but Meyers says its still a fantastic development towards the fight against cancer.
“So this test will find Melanoma, Pancreatic, bile duct and ovarian cancers in its early stages. Some of the cancers that we fear this test does a really good job at catching,” said Meyers.

“It is going to change the face of cancer care in the United States and in the world from what we’ve known, and will hopefully be eventually used as a tool to prevent cancer,” said Meyers.
