In Lake Charles, Judge Clayton Davis formally sentenced Kevin Daigle to death for the 2015 fatal shooting of Louisiana State Police trooper Steven Vincent. Vincent encountered what he thought was a stranded motorist on a rural road when Daigle fatally shot him in the face.
“Being a victim myself and my family and also all three of us brothers being in law enforcement, I think it is great to see that our justice system prevails.”
There has only been one death sentence carried out in Louisiana since 2002, and Vincent expects a lengthy appeal process to delay the execution of the sentence. He said he hopes to see the justice system run its course.
“If everything works according to the way the process is and he actually can be put to death, I would hope that would happen.”
Seven years since the shooting, Chief Vincent highlighted the importance of remembering the victims of violent crimes and their families.
“People should always remember the families and the victims of these horrific crimes and that their healing is a long process and they never forget and fallen heroes should never be forgotten.”
