The multi-state Powerball Jackpot reaches $1.2 billion for tonight’s drawing with a cash value of $596.7 million making it the second-largest jackpot in the history of the game, and 4th largest jackpot in the U.S.
Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison, said sales pick up when you have a large jackpot because of people’s curiosity and excitement.
“The Powerball sales for this jackpot run through Monday were nearly $20.2 million and just for the last week alone sales were almost $7 million so that’s definitely picked up”, said Annison.
Players can win prizes from the lottery without matching all 6 numbers.
Annison said even if you don’t win a jackpot there are still other cash prizes.
“In the million dollar match prize we’ve had two winners in Geismar and Maurepas during this jackpot run, we have one $1 million prize in Geismar and one $1 million prize Maurepas earlier this jackpot run,” said Annison.
Annison said although players are excited he still wants people to be responsible.
“It really does only take one to win and be sure to sign the back of your ticket as soon as you purchase it and also check the numbers after the drawing is held this evening,” said Annison.
