The U-S House has approved 858-billion dollars for national defense and hundreds of millions of dollars will go towards Louisiana’s military bases. Congressman and House Armed Services Committee member Mike Johnson says Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish will receive 125-million dollars to construct a Weapons Generation facility.
“It will allow us to assemble and load the weapons onto the B-52s to those giant planes that we use here instead of flying them to the Dakotas which has been done,” said Johnson.
Johnson says Fort Polk in Vernon Parish will receive 61-million dollars to update the command station so it provides more realistic training activities.
“The current joint operation center was built back in the early 1960’s and it was originally intended to be a classroom. We needed this new center for decades,” said Johnson.
Fort Polk is also receiving 41-million for a new Child Development Center and 35-million dollars to update the Information System Facility at Fort Polk.
Johnson is also glad the federal legislation rescinds the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for members of the U.S. military.
“Nearly 100 thousand service members are currently facing discharge because we just can’t afford to see that so this is s big win for national security for individual freedom and of course common sense,” said Johnson.
The federal bill still needs U.S. Senate approval which is expected.
