Attorneys representing the suspects accused of participating in a rape of LSU student Madison Brooks, before she died, say she was not raped. Attorney Ron Haley says Brooks consented to have sex with two individuals in a vehicle before she was dropped off.
“The two defendants who engaged in a consensual sexual act with Ms. Brooks did so after obtaining verbal consent, the way this is being reported and taken of out context in the police report is factually inaccurate,” said Haley.
Haley says there’s video of Brooks leaving the vehicle unharmed and in good health.
Haley says there’s also video of a conversation from inside the car after Brooks and two men engaged in sexual activity that will show a rape did not occur.
“As the facts of this case continue to come forward, we believe intent and consent will be very clear,” said Haley.
Haley says at this time they are not releasing the videos as they allow the judicial process to take place.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff Deputies say Brooks was killed by a passing vehicle after she was dropped off by the four men, who sexually assaulted her. Attorney Joe Long represents 18-year-old defendant Casen Carver and he says if Brooks was still alive, this would not be a crime.
“The understandable anger in the community wants someone to pay for her death, we understand that, but our clients did not do that,” said Long.
