After a witness came forward a few weeks ago an almost 13-year-old cold case resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Montrey Paige Sr. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said in 2010, 22-year-old Jamin Robinson was found on the side of the road in Independence. Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis said they originally thought he was a victim of a hit and run.
“And upon conducting an autopsy it determined he died from blunt force trauma to the head,” said Travis.
Paige was arrested in Chambers County, Texas, and faces murder charges, several failure-to-appear counts, and one charge of jumping bail.
Travis said they finally got a break in the case when an eyewitness came forward.
“This had been kind of just preying on him and he started feeling remorse or whatever and he came forward and was able to provide us with very credible eyewitness statements as to the fact that it took place when the homicide occurred,” said Travis.
A motive in the case has not been released. Travis said even though Paige was 17 years old in 2010, Travis said he is charged as an adult.
“Up until three years ago once you reach the age of 17, you were considered an adult offender in the state of Louisiana,” said Travis.
TPSO said they hope the arrest will bring the Robinson family some closure. Paige was extradited back to Louisiana and is being held in the Tangipahoa Parish Prison.
