The 37th annual Festival International de Louisiane is taking over downtown Lafayette April 26-30.
The celebration of cultures from around the world includes music, food, and art. Marketing director of Festival International de Louisiane, Carly Viator says it’s about unity and diverse backgrounds.
“It’s a 5-day celebration that takes over downtown Lafayette. It’s just a magical experience that we’ve been fortunate enough to keep around for 37 years,” said Viator.
Regarded as the ‘heartbeat of the Acadiana’, Lafayette native, Lauren Daigle and artists from across the world will play at this year’s festival.
“We also have Angelique Kidjo. She has many Grammys. Dub Inc. will be coming from France. We have Tank & the Bangas and of course, we have great Cajun and zydeco groups,” said Viator.
Viator says attendance growth adds the perfect ingredients for cultural tourism and economic development.
“Festival International was founded back in the 80’s right after the oil bust. I would say it succeeded. We welcome 300,000 visitors to the festival every year,” said Viator.
The event is free to the public.
