Whether you’re observing the lenten season or love great times with family and friends in the backyard, crawfish season is here, and prices are starting to look favorable for the delicious mudbugs. The crawfish industry is seeing a solid supply of good-sized crawfish. Co-Founder of The Crawfish App, Laney King
“You can expect to pay around $3 – $3.25 per pound for a sack of live crawfish that’s about $.50 cents a pound less than they were the same weekend last year,” said King.
As supply increases, prices are expected to continue to fall over the next couple of months. King says it’s easy to locate the red crustaceans at a price that’s affordable.
“Hop on The Crawfish App you can find them under $3 a pound that puts the sack under $100 and that’s when it really becomes affordable to get together with eight or ten friends, ” said King.
More than 100 million pounds of crawfish are harvested each year with an annual economic impact of $120 million. King says prices are starting to stabilize for the economy.
“We’re getting some relief compared to last year. So that’s where that 15 percent cheaper price is coming in,” said King.
Over 1,650 vendors across the state can be found on The Crawfish App.
