ULM and Louisiana Tech announced they will renew their football rivalry, but fans will have to wait until 2030 before the two schools separated by 36 miles will meet again on the gridiron. They have not played each other on the football field since 2000. KNOE-TV sports director Aaron Dietrich said it’s good to see the rivalry resume.
“As hard as it is to schedule opponents, why are these teams not playing after all these years, and why can’t they make it happen?”
The announced two game series will take place in 2030 at Louisiana Tech’s home field. The Bulldogs will return the trip to Monroe in 2031. La Tech leads the all-time series 30-13 and they met for 39 straight years between 1953 and 1991. Dietrich said many longtime Bulldog fans have pushed back on the idea of playing ULM.
“A lot of the Bulldog faithful, they didn’t know what they could actually gain from a win against ULM, but as we do know times do change.”
The two schools scheduled a game against each other in 2020, but it was scrapped because of COVID. Dietrich hopes this game will take place.
“This is to say in 2030 they’re not in the same conference, and with the way the landscape continues to change in college football, we don’t even know what’s gonna happen within two years let alone seven years down the road.”
