It’s another great week for crawfish consumers with an average $.15 drop in prices this week. That’s according to Crawfish App co-founder Laney King. She said the drop in prices wasn’t at the dock this time, it was retailers who dropped their prices.
“They do that sometimes to remain competitive, to get their consumers in their doors the week before the Super Bowl Sunday of crawfish season,” said King.
Which of course is Easter weekend. You can expect to pay about $2.64 a pound this weekend for live crawfish.
As we approach Easter weekend, King said you’ll want to start planning now if you haven’t already and reserve your sacks as soon as possible. And even though there’s been a consistent weekly drop in crawfish prices this season King predicts that’s about to change.
“With that increase in demand for crawfish, there’s a very high chance that prices are going to go up slightly, we’re forecasting a quarter, maybe a quarter a pound,” said King.
And if you’re hankering for some crawfish this weekend and aren’t in the mood to boil them yourself, King said you’ll pay about $4.00 a pound.
“Some places are a lot cheaper, you can find out on the Crawfish App who has the cheapest, but I would say $3.99 is about what you can expect,” said King.
The Crawfish App compiles data from 16,50 Louisiana vendors and prices this weekend are down $.20 a pound compared to the same weekend in 2022.
