Rep Steve Scalise (R) - LA
Congressman Steve Scalise is happy his Lower Energy Costs Act has passed the U.S. House, and he’s optimistic the Senate will follow suit. Scalise’s H.R. 1 passed by a narrow 225-204 margin last Thursday. He says the bill drew some bipartisan votes in the House and he expects likewise in the Upper Chamber…:
“The heart of this bill is lowering energy costs for families and making more energy in America, so we don’t have to be dependent on foreign countries for our energy. And there’s a lot of interest across the country in getting that done.”
Scalise says the bill is intended to help consumers make ends meet, and that shouldn’t draw partisan resistance to a GOP bill. He says he’s already spoken with some Democrats in the Senate who are interested in debating the measure…:
“We’ll need about 11 senators on the Democrat side that would agree to At least bring the bill up. We only need two or three (Democrat) senators that would be willing to vote FOR the bill in the end.”
The Lower Energy Costs act would increase domestic energy production, clear red tape in the permitting process and increase energy exports. Scalise says it’s in the best interests of the American taxpayers and the White House to support the bill…:
“We can make it here in America – cleaner and better than anywhere else in the world – and so, as people see that this bill has momentum, I think the President will ultimately realize that he can’t veto this bill if it gets to his desk. He’ll ultimately sign it.”
Scalise says 60 senators (about 11 of them Democrats) will have to vote to bring the bill up for debate. Once that’s done, it will need a simple majority of “yes” in order to pass and go to President Biden.
