Update: An emotional high school softball playoff game took place Monday in Winn Parish as Calvin High School defeated Castor 13 to 3. On Saturday, Calvin’s head coach, Chad Camp, was fatally shot. Camp led the girls to a Class C State Championship last season.
Here’s the original story:
The Winn Parish Sheriff is investigating a murder that claimed the life of a Calvin High School softball coach who was fatally shot by his son after an altercation Saturday. Sheriff Cranford Jordan says 51-year-old Kevin Chad Camp was pronounced dead on the scene.
“Deputies and EMS were dispatched. Upon arrival, they found Kevin Chad Camp suffering from a gunshot wound.”
Camp’s 17-year-old son – whose name has not been released – shot his father at a residence on LA 501 north of Calvin after an argument about returning home late. Jordan says this is an unfortunate incident-Camp was an upstanding individual.
“Mr. Camp was the AG teacher, at Calvin High School and also the coach for the winning team last year.”
Jordan says the teenager has been charged with manslaughter in the death of his father.
“Manslaughter is something that is caused in the heat of the moment. And that’s the proper charge that he charged the young man with.”
The teenager is in custody of the the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office.
