To address the critical need for registered nurses, UL Lafayette and Ochsner Lafayette General have formed a partnership for students to earn an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Interim Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Lisa Broussard, said it’s ideal for those who have a bachelor’s degree in any field and desire a career in nursing.
“Once they complete the general education courses that are needed, they will be able to enroll in the nursing courses and complete them in 15 months,” said Broussard.
And not only is the degree accelerated, but Broussard said the hospital will also cover the cost of tuition and provide clinical sites for students.
“So not only will they have their tuition covered while they are in the program but they will also be assured a position at Ochsner Lafayette General upon graduation,” said Broussard.
Any general education courses will be paid for by the student, but any of the 17 required nursing credits will be paid for by the hospital.
Broussard said the nursing shortage is predicted to grow considerably and the partnership is ideal for those who want a career in nursing but both time and costs are obstacles to earning a degree.
“This partnership presents some solutions to those two things that are really some of the key barriers for people being able to come back,” said Broussard.
The program begins in May of 2024 and students will graduate in August of 2025. For more information click here.
