Senate District 21 candidate Stephen Swiber knows there’s no one like your mother to persuade you, so he’s going to fly one lucky mother to anywhere in the US to visit their child and convince them to move home with his BackToTheBayou.com campaign.
“A good way to kind of launch our campaign season, it’s an initiative to send one lucky mother, that we’re going to draw on Mother’s Day two plane tickets to go visit her kids or her grandkids wherever they have moved,” said Swiber.
Because so many residents are leaving the state for better opportunities, he said he’s running for Senate to change that and improve Louisiana’s outmigration problem. And the contest isn’t limited to District 21 which includes St. Mary and parts of other coastal parishes.
“It’s open to all Louisiana residents. We’re going to draw a random Louisiana entry on Mother’s Day,” said Swiber.
According to a recent US News and World Report, Swiber said Louisiana ranks 50th and is even being eclipsed by Mississippi at 48th. He said the state can no longer ignore outmigration.
“We are really falling behind and this is our last opportunity to catch up maybe these next few cycles. So, there’s an urgency that I don’t think they are feeling in Baton Rouge at all,” said Swiber.
