The Saints begin their first full week of training camp today, and it’s still a little surreal seeing tight end Jimmy Graham back on the practice field and wearing Black and Gold. Graham signed with the Saints last week re-joining a franchise that drafted him in 2010, but traded him to Seattle in 2015.
“It feels amazing to be back home. Just driving up to this facility on Monday brought back beyond beautiful moments for me, not only here in this building but here in this city. I became a man in this city, and it meant everything to me to play for this city.”
After four straight seasons of 85 catches or more, Graham said he was shocked and also hurt by the trade to the Seahawks.
“I thought I would never leave this place, and obviously it’s a business. This league’s a business, and I woke up to the part of the business that hurts. For me it was very difficult but I didn’t know I was going to a Super Bowl contender and I knew I had the opportunity to possibly make a run at a ring, and that’s always been a goal for me.”
Graham admit he didn’t do many media interviews in Seattle, because he didn’t want talk about the Saints trading him. After three years with the Seahawks, two years in in Green Bay, and two years in Chicago, Graham is now hoping to make the Black and Gold a Super Bowl contender again.
“Awesome to really sit down and talk with Carr, just realize what type of man he is, what type of person he is and then to see how much talent’s on this team. To see how many players that this team has and the team that’s been built here is unbelievable. So much talent on both sides of the ball and just excited to see it and spread some of my knowledge, some of the thigs I’ve learned throughout my career.”
