Today is the last day homeowners can fill out a survey to be considered for recovery assistance for damage suffered from Hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida and May 2021 severe storms. The federally funded Restore Louisiana program is providing grant funding to homeowners to help with home repair and reconstruction and reimbursement of completed repairs. Director of the Office of Community Development Pat Forbes said all the survey costs is about ten minutes of your time.
“You may or may not be eligible for funding, but we are absolutely going to figure that out with you if you fill out the survey. If you don’t fill out the survey, however, we don’t have an opportunity to try to help you.”
Since the program began in February 2022, more than 33,000 homeowners have completed the survey and funding has been offered to over 3,000. Forbes said the Office of Community Development estimates there are many more residents who qualify for assistance.
“We’re pretty sure there’s probably 60,000 folks out there who could be eligible who have not completed the survey yet.”
The program has funded more than $266 million in grants for home repairs or reconstruction. Forbes said the grant can help with anything from a few thousand dollar roof repair to a complete house raising and reconstruction.
“The limit on the grants I think is $300,000, but we essentially pay to repair whatever damage you had from the storm.”
Homeowners fill out the Survey online at restore.la.gov or by calling 886-735-2001 from 8 a.m. to 5.pm.
