Update: State Police have charged 23-year-old Vonteeko Anderson for first degree murder in the shooting death of Ville Platte City Marshal Barry Giglio. Giglio and other law enforcement officers were executing a search warrant on a known drug house in Ville Platte on Monday night when gun fire rang out. State Trooper Thomas Gossen says Anderson was taken into custody that night and booked on drug and weapon charges.
“He was already in jail and he was re-booked shortly after 6:30 PM on Wednesday,” said Gossen.
There were four people inside the Beauregard Street home when officers arrived with a search warrant. Gossen says their investigation has determined Anderson shot at the police.

Two women were also inside the home. One of them was shot and at last report was in the hospital. An 18-year-old woman was also at the home, but was not shot. She was in custody after the shooting, but was released as L-S-P did not bring charges against her.
A shooting in Evangeline Parish last night has resulted in the death of a Ville Platte Deputy City marshal and another man. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says the sheriff’s office was attempting to execute a search warrant for suspected drug activity inside the home.
“Upon entering the home there was an exchange of gunfire and the deputy marshal was struck by gunfire and died at the scene,” said Gossen.
The deceased officer has been identified Barry Giglio. Gossen says two other people were shot besides the officer.
“Two others in the home that were hit by gunfire, a male who later died, a female who was in critical condition, there was one person who was taken into custody following the shooting,” said Gossen.
Gossen says this is an active investigation.
“They’ve been conducting interviews, there are still interviews to be conducted, so there is bodycam to be reviewed, so there is a lot of things to be processed,” said Gossen.
Gossen says anyone with information, video or pictures is urged to share with State Police. Ville Platte Mayor Ryan Leday Williams says this tragedy is yet another reminder of the sacrifices men and women in law enforcement each day. He says Deputy Marshal Giglio’s ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
