
Oak Grove High School cheerleaders have been chosen to participate in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade but they need help raising money to help fund their travel to the Big Apple. Angela Johnson, the mom of Ashley Johnson – one of the cheerleaders, says a select number of cheerleaders are chosen and they were notified in July…
“So it kinda all hit from all at once. And they have a short period of time once they get the go-ahead to try to get their funds in order to make their deposits or whatever is necessary to get them on that trip.”
Six seniors on the squad will have a busy schedule consisting of multiple rehearsals a day. But in between, Johnson says the team will also have the opportunity to see Broadway shows, take a tour of the Empire State Building, and more. She says it isn’t just talent that gets the teams into the parade, it also requires money…
“Their plane tickets, there are other costs involved. There’s transportation to and from the airport. There are a few meals in there. Extra excursions they’ll have to do. All the stuff you don’t really think about until you get there.”
The goal is to raise $36 thousand dollars. Johnson says time is ticking and the cheer squad has been working non-stop. She says it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to show their talents and the squad is committed…
“The middle of September is when their final payment is due. So they’ve been working like little bees trying to do what they can to help make this trip happen.”
