West Baton Rouge Parish authorities announce three more people have been arrested for their role in a fatal shooting at a high school football game that left 15-year-old Ja’Kobe Queen dead.
“The kid was going to get a cold drink at a concession stand and a thug decided to end his life,” said West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes.
The suspect, 18-year-old Jarrettin Ranaud Jackson II, was arrested Monday in Baton Rouge. Jackson is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, carrying a firearm on school property, and possession of a machine gun. 28-year-old Brasia Davis of Port Allen was also injured at the 52nd Sugar Cane Classic, an annual match-up between Port Allen and Brusly high schools.
18-year-old Jailyn Smith and two other juveniles were also arrested in connection with the shooting. They face obstruction of justice, manslaughter, and disturbing the peace charges.
18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton said it’s a tragedy that’s impacted several lives.
“You’ve got a dead kid, and then you’ve got another kid, that he will be fully prosecuted. And he will be prosecuted with the penalty, if convicted calls for him to die in Angola. So, in essence, you’ve got two lives thrown away plus the peripheral folks,” said Clayton.
Even with a large presence of law enforcement on-site, Cazes said Queen’s life ended Friday.
“They had six deputies behind this guy when he pulled the gun out. So, we can be 100 to 10, in your mind when you’re ready to kill, you’re going to kill, they don’t care who’s standing behind you,” said Cazes.
The school district plans to use scanners and limit entrances for future football games.
