The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved a new ten-year, 36-million dollar contract for Lady Tigers basketball coach Kim Mulkey. It’s the richest contract in women’s college basketball and board member Remy Starns was happy to vote for it.
“I am tickled beyond all measure that Kim Mulkey is our basketball coach,” said Starns.
Only one board member voted against it and that was Jay Blossman, who would rather see coaches get huge bonuses for winning championships.
“Don’t just put $150,000 in to win a championship, put a million dollars down, we can say look if you win a championship, we owe you a million dollar bonus for that’s fantastic that’s incentive-based compensation,” said Blossman.
Blossman says if a coach has a bad season, you can’t go back and ask for the money back.
Mulkey will make 3.15 million dollars in the upcoming season, slightly higher than fellow national championship coaches Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma. Starns believes LSU has the best women’s college basketball coach in the country…
“As someone who attends our basketball games the number of people who attend it’s awe-inspiring to see Coach Mulkey’s program,” said Starns.
