Louisiana State University of Alexandria has exceeded its goal of enrolling five thousand undergraduate students by 2025, securing its status as the fastest-growing public university in the state. Chancellor Paul Coreil says the university has seen a 24 percent increase in enrollment with students from places far and near.
“We’re at 5104 officially with our census. We have students from all 64 parishes, 28 countries. We have some international students.”
The uptick in enrollment includes nearly six percent in on-campus admissions. Students transferring to LSUA from other institutions increased by 49 percent over the last year. Coreil touts the value of the university.
“Our tuition is one of the lowest in the state. The ratio of students to faculty is about 20 to 21 to one. So you get personal attention. The other big thing I think is we’re really offering degrees that have jobs available.”
This year’s freshman class of 475 marks the 3rd largest since admission standards were increased in 2007 and is the largest in the last eight years. Coreil says there was nearly 40 percent growth in students opting for a 100 percent online program
“The students are hearing about our educational opportunities online. They’re enrolling here. It’s affordable. And we’re offering degrees so they can get jobs in their region. So it’s going to continue to be a growth area.”
As of the 2023 fall semester, the university has 5,104 students enrolled.
