Baton Rouge Police has charged 30-year-old Douglas Brown with murder for allegedly shooting his father, 79-year-old John Brown. John Brown was found dead on Saturday morning inside the home the two shared. Lt. L’Jean McKneely says Douglas Brown may have had an ulterior motive for killing his father.
“Apparently there was some type of financial motive we believe was the reason for the shooting.”
Douglas Brown was booked on counts of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.
McKneely says tips and evidence, including surveillance video led to Douglas Brown’s arrest.
“He was arrested at the home on Leonidas. Our SWAT team along with detectives went and apprehended him.”
McKneely says Douglas Brown was booked in the East Baton Rouge Prison.
“He’s facing second-degree murder along with being in possession of a firearm, and being a convicted felon.”
