LSU says this incoming freshman class is the most academically accomplished in history with a record-high average ACT score of 26.5, a full point higher than last year’s freshman class. President William Tate says the class also has a record-high GPA of 3.82. He says the university is doing a great job in promoting itself.
“We are one of a very few institutions in America that has a designation as the land, sea, and space grant institution.”
Tate is also pleased LSU is keeping a large majority of the students who choose LSU. He says this fall’s first-to-second-year retention rate for the overall student body is at 84 percent…
“So we are working on first-year retention by adding more counselors, advisors, making sure the process works really well.”
LSU‘s overall enrollment is a record 39,419, up two thousand from a year ago. But Tate says for the state to eclipse 40-thousand students the university needs to build a couple of new dorms and needs to add professors…
“We’re going to focus on building the quality of the class, our physical infrastructure and the faculty size is always going to be a consideration when you think about class size and so there are some things we would need to do.”
