LSU safety Greg Brooks Junior is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove a large brain tumor. Tigers Coach Brian Kelly says Brooks had episodes of vertigo during preseason camp and had another episode last Wednesday.
“Finally we said, enough is enough and we got an MRI and that was when the tumor was located,” said Kelly.
Brooks’ family says it’s awaiting biopsy results.
Brooks is a co-captain for the Tigers and one of their players in the defensive secondary. Kelly has no idea on if he will play again.
“I don’t even know if I could begin to give you the medical pieces relative to the surgery to give you an educated answer to that,” said Kelly.
Brooks is in his fifth season of playing college football. The Harvey native played his first three years of college football at Arkansas.
He transferred to LSU after the 2021 season and was a big part of the Tigers winning the SEC West last year. Kelly knows Brooks still wants to contribute this year.
“I know before he went in (for surgery) he was pretty clear about playing again this year, but that’s Greg Brooks,” said Kelly.
