DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson
Former State Transportation Director Shawn Wilson said he’s the best gubernatorial candidate because of his proven bipartisan leadership and the ability to deliver infrastructure projects. Projects like widening I-10 in Baton Rouge, advancing a new Mississippi River Bridge, and building a new entrance at Barksdale Air Force Base.
“And I’m the only candidate with this level of experience. While others who have been in office have used their position to file lawsuits and do other things that aren’t necessarily making life better for our citizens. I’ve been able to do that,” said Wilson.
The Democrat said his campaign is about making sure residents are healthier, safer, smarter, and wealthier. First Wilson said he’ll address Medicaid expansion requirements and then make investments to be smart on crime.
“We’re going to work with local law enforcement, and district attorneys and legislators to ensure that our police officers are equipped with all of the tools that they need and that they are paid appropriately. No different from what we need to do for public employees and educators,” said Wilson.
Wilson said he wants to increase funding for early childhood education and ensure teacher pay raises.
“I’m the only candidate that’s committed to not only paying teachers but making sure that we use these increases and that they keep up with inflation like everything else,” said Wilson.
The Lafayette resident says he’ll address the state’s insurance crisis by holding insurers accountable so citizens receive the benefits they are entitled to.
