Two state representatives will continue to serve Louisiana as they’ve been elected to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Republicans Paul Hollis and Lance Harris agree that attracting and keeping quality teachers is a must. Hollis says…
“I think teachers deserve more respect. I think they deserve more pay.”
Harris says we must also be sure teachers have access to the resources they need to educate our children
Not every student will go to college after high school, so Hollis wants to prepare non-college-bound students for success in the job market.
“I’m talking sophomores, juniors in high school determine what it is that they’re interested in, then match them with a skillset and a focus so that when they’re done with high school they’re actually employed.”
While Representative Hollis has plans to increase success for high school graduates, Building on the work that’s being done to ensure quality early childhood education is essential says Representative Harris…
“We need to make sure we instill those fundamental foundations that are so important to their success and education and quite frankly in life.”
The newly elected BESE members are optimistic about the future and Harris says it’s time to look at giving parents more say
“Empower the parents with school choice ensuring that they can select the best educational environment for their child’s needs.”
