Former Congressman Ralph Abraham and influential Republican businessmen Lane Grigsby and Eddie Rispone were announced today as transition chairs for Governor-elect Jeff Landry’s transition team. Landry says the transition headquarters will also be at his alma mater U-L Lafayette, instead of LSU, where previous incoming governors held them.
“We want the people of Louisiana to know that all of our universities are important to us and we want to focus on all of our universities that they respond to the needs of the people of this state,” said Landry.
Landry says he plans to tackle the state’s crime problem as soon as he gets into office with a special session as early as mid-January. He says the state’s criminal justice system should work to keep people from going to jail, instead of letting criminals out.
“And we also want to make sure that victims have rights and that we ensure that we concentrate on the rights of the victims rather than the rights of the criminals,” said Landry.
Landry says improving education and the economy are other main objectives. He says fixing Louisiana’s problems will not happen over night, but his transition team will help his administration get off to a running start,.
“A clear set of recommendations and policies to tackle the challenges that we have coming,” said Landry.
Oil and gas field executive Shane Guidry, environmental lawyer Timothy Hardy, Lafayette businessman Steve Orlando are the other transition chairs. Former Senator David Vitter’s chief of staff Kyle Ruckert, is the director of the transition team.
