The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors names Doctor Jim Henderson as the new president of the Louisiana Tech. Henderson will leave his job as U-L System president and he looks to build on what he calls the best undergraduate scholarship program in the state.
“Growing graduate enrollment, growing our research footprint, driving that regional economy on that I-20 corridor, I think there is immense potential for this institution,” said Henderson.
Henderson is a native of Shreveport and previously served as president of Northwestern State and Bossier Parish Community College. He says there are several existing programs at La Tech that he will look to grow.
“Cybersecurity and what they are doing with Information Assurance, especially in association with the cyber innovation center in Bossier, some of things they’ve been doing for years in micromanufacturing and there are some economic development opportunities that are starting to emerge,” said Henderson.
Henderson will begin his role as president on January 1st, replacing Doctor Les Guice who is retiring. He’s been the president of the UL System since 2017 and is looking forward to moving to Ruston.
“What a great symbiotic relationship between a town and a university, it’s all positives from my perspective right now,” said Henderson.
Henderson told the board one of his goals is to establish an endowment. He says they need to lean on private resources, because public funding can be unpredictable during tough budget times.
Grambling State President Rick Gallot has been appointed to replace Henderson as UL System President.
